Faustina Honours Mimico Native
David Clarkson, a forward with the NHL's New Jersey Devils, was the toast of the Faustina Sports Club's Sportsman Night Dinner at the Capitol Banquet Centre on February 18th. The 25-year-old hockey player from South Etobicoke, who was signed as a free agent by the Devils in 2005, was this year's recipient of the Faustina Sportsman of the Year award. Past winners of the award include Ken Hodge, Mike Pelyk, Brendan Shanahan, Ken Cox and Matt Stajan.
Proceeds from the dinner will benefit the Faustina Sports Club's minor hockey program, which is home to 32 house league teams and is currently celebrating its 75th anniversary in the community. Over the last 75 years, thousands of young people have skated on the ice as part of this long-standing house league, learning the game of hockey and enjoying the camaraderie of a team sport. It is a club that values and promotes good sportsmanship among all of the players, members and coaches.
