The Human Library
They always say, you can't judge a book by its cover. But how about its face? Humber College's first ever Human Library engaged readers over two days in February. The initiative was designed to help topple stereotypes, discrimination and stigmas by opening up a safe space for shared exchanges between living "books" and their readers. Similar to a typical library, readers borrow the books, read and return them - the only difference in this case is that the books are real people. The readers are given a unique opportunity to hear real life stories through one-on-one, 30-minute conversations with a living book of their choice. Whatever the topic, the Human Library allowed "readers" to learn first-hand from those who have lived it and know it best.
