Leafs Lace Up for Easter Seals
On February 7th, hockey fans got a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to carve some ice with the Toronto Maple Leafs at the MasterCard Centre for Hockey Excellence. Each participant in the Skate for Easter Seals Kids raised a minimum of $125 in pledges, which they exchanged for a 45-minute skate session. For a number of years, George Stroumboulopoulos, host of CBC's The Hour, has been an enthusiastic volunteer and host of the event and this year he was back again, joined by Scott Morrison from CBC's Hockey Night in Canada. The smiles on the children's faces were heartwarming as they shared the ice with their heroes on skates. The event is an initiative of the MLSE Team Up Foundation, which helps disadvantaged youth in priority neighbourhoods. By providing financial assistance, Easter Seals helps ease the financial burden on families so that children with physical disabilities are able to get the tools they need to achieve a greater level of independence.
